A GED diploma documents that you have high school level skills.  Well over 90% of employers accept the GED diploma as equal to a traditional high school diploma.  You are eligible to take the GED Tests if:

• You are not enrolled in high school, and
• You have not graduated from high school, and
• You are at least 16 years old, and
• You meet state requirements regarding age, residency and length of time since leaving school.

TEST PREPARATION

The GED test consists of five sub-tests:

• Writing Skills (includes writing an essay)
• Social Studies
• Science
• Reading Comprehension
• Math

An average score of 45, with no individual score lower than 40 is required to pass the GED.  In order to succeed, it is important to learn your present knowledge level in each of the five subjects.  This process is usually started during your center registration with a fairly short test called the API.  The API is a beginning point that lets you begin to know which GED class may be right for you (or if you need any classes at all).  There are also practice GED tests available that will give you an idea of whether or not you are ready to test in all or any of the five areas.
